Dolphin Tale – the movie

With posters going up and a two-and-a-half minute long promotional trailer playing in theaters worldwide, interest is building for the Sept. 23 release of “Dolphin Tale” in theaters.

The 3-D movie about Winter, a Clearwater Marine Aquarium dolphin with a prosthetic tale, will have a special Hollywood premiere on Sept. 17 and Florida premiere on Sept. 22 at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

Filmed in Clearwater last year, “Dolphin Tale” stars Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman, Kris Kristofferson and Winter, playing herself. It also features numerous Florida-based actors.

The film is inspired by the true story of Winter, which was rescued off the Florida coast, lost its tale in a crab trap and was taken in by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Young actor Nathan Gamble plays Sawyer, an 11-year-old boy who befriends Winter.

“Dolphin Tale” is being released by Warner Bros. The stars of the film will return to Clearwater Sept. 13-15 for a media junket at The Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa.
